Frequently asked questions
Everything iPhone users ask about Google Tasks and ETasks: alarms, sharing, offline, widgets, permissions, and more. Something missing? Ask support.
Google Tasks on iPhone
The gaps ETasks fills
Does Google Tasks have alarms?
No. Google Tasks shows due dates in Google Calendar, but nothing ever rings. ETasks adds real alarms to your Google Tasks using Apple's AlarmKit: alerts that ring like your morning alarm on iPhone and Apple Watch, with recurrence, postpone, and deadline warnings.
Is there a Google Tasks app for Apple Watch?
Google doesn't make one. ETasks includes a full Apple Watch app: browse your Google Tasks lists, complete tasks from your wrist, and receive reminders and deadline warnings with haptics.
Can you share a Google Tasks list with someone?
Google Tasks has no built-in sharing. ETasks adds shared lists with an anyone-with-the-link invite. Sharing runs over iCloud (CloudKit), so sharing a Google-connected list moves it off Google; from then on it syncs between members via iCloud. Collaborators need ETasks.
Does Google Tasks work offline?
Google's own app has limited offline support. ETasks is offline-first: you can create, edit, and complete tasks with no connection, and changes queue up and sync with Google Tasks when you're back online.
Is there a Google Tasks widget for iPhone?
Google's app offers only a basic widget. ETasks ships eight Home Screen and Lock Screen widget types (task lists, today and upcoming views, and quick add) in light and dark styles, always in sync with Google Tasks.
About ETasks
The app itself
What is ETasks?
ETasks is a native Google Tasks app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. It syncs two ways with Google Tasks and adds everything iOS does best: real alarms, widgets, shared lists, calendar planner views, AI capture, and offline mode. It also works fully locally without a Google account.
Is ETasks free?
Yes. ETasks is free and ad-free.
Do I need a Google account to use ETasks?
No. Choose "Use on this device" and ETasks works as a local, private to-do list app. Sign in with Google whenever you want your tasks to sync with Google Tasks, Gmail, and Google Calendar.
Does ETasks work on iPad?
Yes. ETasks has a native iPad experience alongside the iPhone and Apple Watch apps, and your lists stay in sync across all of them.
What can the AI in ETasks do?
Help that earns its keep: extract task info from links, texts, photos, and PDFs shared into the app; suggest list names and write clean titles; dictate tasks with speech; and context-aware search that understands what you mean. No chatbot bolted onto your to-do list.
Which languages does ETasks support?
ETasks is available in 27 languages.
When does ETasks launch?
ETasks is coming soon to the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Join the waitlist and we'll email you once, at launch.
Sync & data
How your tasks move
What does ETasks sync with Google Tasks?
For Google-connected lists: task lists, tasks, subtasks, titles, notes, due dates, completion state, and list order, all two-way. Favorite and reminder metadata travels with the task via notes markers. Alerts themselves fire in ETasks on your Apple devices, not in Google's apps.
Will my tasks show up in Google Calendar and Gmail?
Yes. Because ETasks writes to Google Tasks itself, tasks you create or complete in ETasks appear wherever Google shows Tasks (including Google Calendar and the Tasks panel in Gmail), and vice versa.
Why don't my task alarms ring in Google's apps?
Reminder and alarm times sync as metadata on Google-connected lists, but Google's apps have no alarm feature to fire them. The alerts ring in ETasks on your iPhone and Apple Watch instead: insistently, like an alarm clock. More on the task alarms page.
Do collaborators on a shared list need ETasks?
Yes. Send the invite link over any messenger; whoever opens it in ETasks joins the list. Everyone sees collaborator stamps showing who added what, while reminders, alarms, and attached files stay personal to each member.
Can I import or export my tasks?
Yes. ETasks supports JSON backup and import for your task lists, handy before switching devices or as an extra safety copy. You can also disconnect from Google at any time and keep working locally.
Privacy & permissions
Your data, your call
What Google permissions does ETasks request?
Only the Google Tasks scope (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks), the same access Google's own Tasks app uses. ETasks never requests Gmail, Calendar, Drive, or Contacts, and you can revoke access anytime from your Google Account permissions page.
How do I disconnect Google or delete my data?
Sign out or disconnect inside the app, and revoke access anytime at your Google Account permissions page. Your tasks stay in your Google account; local data is removed when you uninstall the app. See the Privacy Policy for what is stored where.
